So I was at work yesterday and I was thinking, "Why is it okay to say 'ladies' but it sounds weird to to just say 'lady'?"
Repeat after me
"What's going on, ladies?" -- Yep, that sounds pretty decent to me.
But what about:
"What's going on, lady?"
Whoa. That just sounds so wrong. But how could this be? After all, the only difference between the two sentences is that in one the noun is singular, and in the other the noun is plural. It's just that when I hear the word "lady" it sounds so harsh. Sort of like if someone were saying, "Give me all your money, lady!"
But yes, that was my random thought of the day, and something that kept me thinking throughout my 5 hour shift.
And yes, that was my 100th post.
